Oldies but goodies

I've been listening to a lot of Oldies lately....like from the 50's! I know crazy! I gotta admit I love the stuff though. It's so simple and makes me so happy. Now days you would think a song was lame if it had the lyrics they were writing then. Earth Angel by the Penguins is one of my favs!! (which how did they get their hair to look so silky?!?) I've always thought the 50's would have been so fun to be a teenager in (the 20's or the 40's would be fun in your 20's). Life seems to have been more simple in the 50's. According to the movie Crybaby and Grease you really only had two options: you were either a square or a greaser. Now both sides have a lot of compelling arguments that make it hard for me to pick which way I would have gone. I know your thinking I'm totally a greaser cause I'm so rebellious! ;-) and I do love the hot fast cars and the sexy way they get to dress... but then again greasers never go swimming...at least that I've heard of...and that would kinda suck. Plus I do so love the beebop rock, wearing poodle skirts, and getting pinned stuff.
Here's what I imagine a typical beebop good girl life would be: Go to school dressed much like the poodle skirt wearer here, have my books carried by my boyfriend Jonny in the halls at school (sorry Scott, they were all named Jonny back then), Jonny would be a greaser in a black leather jacket & jeans & ride a motorcycle. I would be class VP, and go to pep rallies, and belong to the country club (to swim & go to balls). At night we would go to dinner at a place that serves your burger and fries on roller skates. We would share 1 malt with 2 straws. After dinner we would go watch my big brother Elvis play in his rock band and beebop some cool swing moves. (FYI, all the girls are in love with my bro). After rocking out Jonny and I would head up to the makeout point that overlooks the city, listen to the radio (and hear "our" song, Earth Angel), and kiss with partial tongue for 1/2 hour. Then he would take me home and we would sit on my porch swing and talk until curfew drinking lemonade....I think that sounds totally realistic!

  1. Jaime, I love 50's music. I love old music quite a bit actually. And I also like new music that sounds like old music.

Also, I would be a total sqaure. No doubt about it.
