this is Halloween

Oliver's first Halloween was a success!!
We had people over to our house so we could hand out candy to the million trick or treaters in our hood and so Ollie could go to bed, in his bed, at a decent time.
We also learned a valuable lesson: Don't put two babies to sleep in the same room because they will just keep waking each other up.
Oliver thought that having the boys over earlier to play with was fun, but apparently when it's bed time he doesn't want to hear them.
(and now we know and knowing is half the battle!)
Look how cute they all are together though!

Tigger (aka Asher) is 3 months older than Ollie and Batman (aka Jethro) is 3 months younger.
It's nice that we have friends with kiddos the same age so that Ollie has some playmates!

We only took Ollie to one house to trick or treat since he doesn't eat candy yet (obviously). It was probably silly of us to even take him to one house, but I've been looking forward to having kids for so long I wasn't going to pass up my chance to experience the magic of Halloween night and trick or treating with my little!! He felt the magic of the night too cause we let him chew on the package of candy for a bit. So yeah, it was exciting for all of us.

Originally Scott was supposed to be wearing a nice black suit so that we could be all dressed up with our masks on, but the evening got busy with us making dinner for our guests, then the chatting, then the million trick or treaters, then a photo session of Ollie in his costume, then Ollie with his boys, then the Halloween movies. So by the time we thought of taking our own family photos this is what we ended up with: Scott and I looking half done and Ollie fully costumed. Hopefully next year we will have it more together for a family costume.

What to be for next year now?!?

ps- Don't mind the terrible lighting in all the photos. Apparently we need to get some new bulbs.

candy crush

Yes, I'm this kind of parent, yes it can be tiring, but yes it's super awesome!
Note: no candy corns were harmed in the process

a lil' pumpkin in a patch

We took Oliver on his first outing to pick his own pumpkin!
Well, really we picked the pumpkins and he just giggled the whole time cause he was having a great adventure.
This little man loves his outings...as long as there isn't too many loud people.

Seriously how cute are those little curls on the top of his head?!?
I love this little pumpkin of mine!

fall strolling

Thanksgiving is around the corner and the last week that I want it to be Fall. I know that I said Fall is my fav and it is! I just have another fav time and that's Christmas! I think part of the excitement of Fall is that's its the beginning of all my most favorite things! Fall trees and cardigan wearing to snow covered grounds and sparkly lights! So goodbye to Fall and Sunday Fall walks. Which speaking of Fall walks, Chicago has some of the best tree lined streets for taking strolls!
You know you have a good hubs when the walk ends up with him carrying the nieces and holding the dogs leash! Haha!
Serious cuteness!
Also, you need to take advantage of an un-raked yard every chance you get!
(same thing with an untouched snow covered yard)
Goodbye pretty Fall trees and being able to walk around without a jacket.

Until next year!

cabin time

We went to the Steele family cabin over the weekend! It's a perfect weekend get away with it being only an hour up the mountains. Chilling on the porch in the crisp Fall air with the sun beating down on me and colorful leaves as far as the eye can see is little bit of Fall heaven!
Porch views:

I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but I love Fall! I feel like everyone says that, but I want you to know that I loved it first. Of course, like everyone else, I love the crispness in the air, the smell of fireplaces, the beautiful colors adorning the trees and falling to the ground, the Halloween festiveness, and everything pumpkin flavored. But here are just a few reasons why my love for Fall is more legit than everyone else: I was born in the Fall in some of the most beautiful Fall surroundings of North Western Montana (two thumbs way up for Kalispell!), my first car was brown and orange...like a Fall leaf, I drink hot chocolate and wear cardigans all year long, and Christmas is my favorite holiday (which everyone knows that the Christmas itch really grabs hold of people in October making the Fall season that much more exciting). If that doesn't prove I'm too legit to quit than I don't know what will!!

fallish

Every year I make Scott take me up the mountains so that I can see Fall in all it's glory! It's really one of my favorite things to do! I get to drink hot coco, chillax with the ginger, and listen to great music (it was The Decemberists and Puscifer this time). This is how red beard feels when I tell him to get in a pic:

(he's an angry elf!)

Seriously though, just look at all this beautifullness!!

I was being Pocahontas

I love when other nice fall connoisseurs offer to take a pic for you.

Some outtakes for you to enjoy:

....I don't know why I'm holding my boob in the top right. I think I saw a bug and it was my natural reaction. Also, it's a good thing we went up last weekend because it snowed up in them there mountains today! Which means we had rain here in the valley that I could have used some galoshes for. I super hope I get those yellow wellingtons I requested for my birthday that is happening in 1 week!!!

our first Halloween

I forgot to post what we decided upon for our costumes.
I must say I feel like we could have done so much better!
We had some pretty cool ideas, but didn't try to put it together until the day of the party.
Big mistake!
Next year I vow to plan ahead!
For pulling it all together last minute though it worked out.
I was wanting 300, but found Roman/Gladiator instead.
Also, side note, Scott's sword was real!
He was pretty proud of that, and showed off by cutting food at the party with it.

Below are our awesome pumpkins we did as well.
Scott's is The Punisher and I did the starry night.
Love em!

what to be for Halloweeny

Now that I'm newly married I want to do a couples costume this year.
I know you're thinking cheesy,
but so what!
That's part of the fun of being a couple!

Here are some ideas that I'm throwing around:
Margot & Richie Tenenbaum [Royal Tenenbaums]

Shaun & Liz [Shaun of the Dead]
(though Scott says he can't be Shaun with a beard, no shaving allowed)

King Leonidas & Queen Gorgo [300]
(but maybe dressed a bit less scandalous)

Other ideas: Rogue & Gambit (or Wolverine cause he's pretty much bearded);
Zombies that died going to prom in the 50's;
Circus: Bearded lady (for Scott) or wolfman & I could be half man half woman or maybe reptilian lady...I can't think of other circus freaks I could be since I"m not tattooed or pierced or tall or short. I suppose I could just be a lion tamer, ring master, or trapeze artist to go with the circus theme, but it would be better to be a freak.
I just don't know...
