good ol' Wes

Movies on summer nights are the best!
We finally went and saw Moonrise Kingdom over the weekend. I know, it's about time!!
Serious LOVE!!
Wes Anderson makes some of the most amazing movies!
He's actually my hubs favorite film maker, which inspired this costume of his a few years back
He even had a costume change that he was pretty proud of
(I was Iron Maven from Whip It, but next time I have a fur coat and blond wig to be Margot so that we both can be Tenenbaums together)

Life Aquatic & Royal Tenenbaums have been his favs for years, but Moonrise Kingdom may have overtaken them (which is really saying something for this movie snob).
Go see it if you haven't yet, I promise laughter will be had.

Also, this is one of my favorite summer outfits
The pockets are big enough to hold my phone, my Thor pez dispenser, & chapstick.
Love!

same same

(This is not my "Oh no he didn't!" face [though it's probably pretty similar], this is my "shaking my finger no no shame on you" face...which apparently doesn't convey in a picture like I thought it would.)

I have a serious issue to discuss with you all...I kinda have a beef when people post ALL the same pics or comments on Instagram, blogs, Facebook, Twitter, etc. I'm sorry if this applies to you, I don't think less of you, but I just can't hold it in anymore! I know I'm guilty of doing this myself from time to time (really who isn't??), but there are only a few exceptions that I feel allow for same same (not necessarily in this order):

travel pic of someplace cool to make everyone jealous
new baby
engagement
hair cut
wedding
professional photo shoot
new home
 life altering moments
zombies
meeting a celeb
major epic events
and other things of similar quality

If any of the above happens, you have my permission to post on all the sites the exact same thing all you want! If not, then here's why you shouldn't: when your stalking someone (in a non-creepy way) you don't want to see ALL the same thing on ALL their sites. It's as simple as that. What's the point of following someone on Instagram if they're just gonna dump all the pics on their blog every week?? Or follow someones Twitter when they're doing the exact same post on FB?? May as well only follow one of their sites. I will allow a same update, or photo or two here and there, but more than that and I will have to say Good Day! (that was said in a Fez accent from That 70's Show...in case you were wondering)

I know people are worried about their fans, but I bet the people who follow your blog or facebook or whatever, are following your other media venues and if they're not, won't having new stuff make them want to follow all that you do?!? Just sayin.

So in conclusion, if you vote for me I promise to not do same same!

The End

**please note that I will alter above list as I deem necessary.

guilty obsession

For the record I like to be with my husband ALL the time.
He really is the cutest!
But I kinda love when he does stuff with the boys and I get the TV to myself to watch my guilty pleasure shows that he won't watch with me.
Shows such as:

Ghost Whisperer. This show scares me and makes me cry....every. single. time.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Seriously how did I not watch this show when it was first on?!? Angel in all his brooding sexiness, hello!! I just finished the first season and the way they talk and dress crack me up a bit.

Jem and the Holograms. Just classic! I'm on the search for their music tape. I had one growing up and I'm pretty sure I need to sing my heart out to it once more. (Note: the tape has to have Jealousy & Who Is He Kissing...they were my favorites)

Once Upon A Time. Before the season ended. So good! This is why it's best to wait for a series to end then you can watch it all as fast or slow as you want on Netflix. I hate waiting for the next season!!

Americas Next Top Model. Here's the thing, I don't think I'm a supermodel, but every time I watch the show I sooo think I could take the pics so awesome and win every season!! I could also be a super awesome judge. The end.

The next series I have plans to look into are The X-files and My So Called Life. If you have any other suggestions let me know!

Ps- Netflix and DVR are the best inventions ever!
I don't like planning my life around TV shows and I like to be doing stuff during daylight hours so I missed out on lots of good viewing over the years. Now I get to relax late at night to whatever show I want to watch!!

It really is a modern day miracle.

(PS- I really did take that pic during one of my alone-TV-watching-a-thons and I may look a little tense because I was watching Ghost Whisperer and scary things were afoot!)

PDX

First off, I LOVE Portland!
I love the trees, I love the weather, I LOVE my best friend that lives there!
My friend Ashley and I were able to fly out this last weekend and attend said best friends wedding.
It was beautiful!

Julie, the bride, is the one sandwiched in the middle.
(Also side note, I own all of these outfits)

It was a perfect wedding weekend!
They had the reception at a ranch which was just gorgeous all around!

This horse was super friendly and wanted to take me for a ride I'm sure.

Ashley and I were able to sneak away from wedding duties a couple times and do some shopping and walking around town as well. We were dying to check out Portlands antique/thrift stores!
I bought the CUTEST dress from the 1930's that fits perfectly!
I will take pics when I wear it to show off.

Some other cool Portland stuff from the weekend:

Christmas tree farm!!
For those who don't know me, I'm a Christmas fanatic and these trees made my heart swell with Christmas spirit!

Powells Book Store
Another passion of mine, reading. I bought The Great Gatsby. Seriously how have I never read this before!?! I also bought my husband a beard book...for obvious reasons.
[see pic top right]

Voodoo Dougnuts
I think I was expecting fairy dust and unicorn farts or something cause the doughnuts kind of fell flat for me...or it could just be that I don't really like doughnuts in the first place??

Cool art in the city
I can't wait to go back to Portland and bring the hubs!! He would love to climb the surrounding mountains.

Ps- My Instagram is full of Portland pics as well.

some things i've learned

My whole one year of married life has taught me a couple things about myself, and here I thought at 33 I pretty much knew ALL about me! I guess there's always something new to discover.

1. I talk in my sleep sometimes. Which is super cool!! I hope I only say awesome things like:
"Aim for the head!"
"I know you can be overwhelmed, and you can be underwhelmed, but can you ever just be whelmed?"
"They may take our lives, but they'll never take our freedom!"
or maybe
"You remind me of the babe"

(I guess all super cool things said are said in movies...)

2. Apparently I don't know how to close things. Doors, drawers, cupboards, ect.
I never knew this was a problem until I got married and the hubs pointed it out to me. I blame my "raccoon-itis" (which is totally a legit medical term for getting distracted by shiny objects). I mean something must catch my eye if I'm just walking away from an open cupboard right!?!? You would think an overly organized girl who likes everything in it's place wouldn't have this issue.
(This may or may not be an exaggeration)

Ps- I'm going to Portland this weekend for my bff's wedding!! Check back next week for some (hopefully) awesome pics (I'm still trying to figure out how to work our Cannon). Also, you can follow some of the happenings on Instagram.

one year super model photo shoot

I just realized I haven't posted my favorite pics from our one year anniversary photo shoot with the amazing Duston Todd!
Prepare to be amazed and maybe a bit weirded out.

The red in the pics is holi sand used in the Hari Krishna Color Festivals.
We knew the red would have a horror movie effect, but didn't know it would look so bloody! Hey, we went with it and it turned out awesome! We're just crazy like that.

fourth

I love the Fourth of July!
I don't see how you can't! Every Fourth I feel like I'm transported back in time to a place where everyone was patriotic and loved our country. Plus the Fourth always feels like a small town celebration (small town as in where you know and trust all your neighbors and feel kindred), and I'm definitely a small town girl at heart.
The best of all though is the fireworks! Who doesn't love fireworks?!?
They're the bomb dot com.
(We may have spent around $100 on fireworks this year...I couldn't help myself)

Also, I may just happen to be one of those people that like to dress for the holiday or event.
It's true, I super can't wait to be that eclectic old lady on the block that dresses all crazy...someday.

Anyway, here are some threads I wore to celebrate.

Play:
Hope everyone had a fun patriotic Fourth!!

**pics courtesy of my iPhone. I haven't had time to download the cannon yet. Too much Fourth fun happening with the Steele clan.

fair-ly good time

Scott and I went to our first fair of the season over the weekend!
I LOVE going to the fair!
It has pretty lights, excitement in the air, yummy food, and the BEST people watching!

(It's super hard to take a pic of ourselves with the big ol' Cannon. Plus what is up with my blah flat hair?!?)

I ate popcorn, cotton candy, and a funnel cake...which apparently got all over me. Even down to my shoes.
I wish there were fairs every weekend during the summer!
