Baby Oliver's amazing first week of life!
proud and tired daddy at the hospital
daddy's first gift to baby, BYU beanie (of course)
This boys first night home from the hospital had to be the worst night of my life!! We could not get him to stop crying for hours, so of course I had to cry with him because I felt so inept. We figured out it was gas, so we got some gas drops and he's been a ton better!!
Oliver keeps his eye on me cause I can't stop kissing him!
first bath! he hated it!!
he sure does sleep a lot
love his happy milk drunk face
I'm seriously beyond in love with this boy and I can't stop staring at him!
Some things I've learned about me:
- My full time job was never this hard or tiring.
- The recovery of the who-ha after having baby is a ton worse than actually having the baby.
- Apparently when a person retains as much water as I did it's possible to lose 22lbs the first week home. Don't worry, I still have the 30lbs of normal baby weight gain to lose, but at least some of my clothes and shoes are fitting again!
- Even though I'm super tired I don't mind waking up to feed the baby in the middle of the night. Usually I'm an angry elf when people try to steal my sleep.
- Speaking of sleep, getting 8 hours of sleep in 1, 2, and 3 hour increments does not feel as good as a solid 8 hours.
- Going to bed at 8pm seems like a reasonable time to me now.
- Feeding him is some of my favorite moments. I love to stare at his perfect features while he eats.
- I've already been peed and pooped on numerous times...how does it get everywhere!?!
- I don't know how single parents do it! Scott had the flu and wasn't able to hold Oliver for 2 whole days (which killed him), but it also was killing me! I need help and I'm not scared to admit it to him, but I have a hard time asking anyone else to help.
- A huge difference I've noticed from being preggo to having the baby...my pee's last a lot longer and I don't need to eat every 2 seconds. In fact I have a hard time getting any food in cause I just want to hold my baby all the time!
- I thought I loved my hubs before Oliver was born, but seeing him be a good daddy makes me fall even more in love with him.
Some things I've learned about Oliver:
- For some reason the boy likes when I sing Old McDonald to him, it was the one song to calm him down during a fit he was having. Good thing it's easy to make up extra verses to that song!
- He loves when I read to him. He stays really calm and just stares at me until I'm done.
- Oliver is a talker! If he's awake he's making noise.
- He super hates diaper changes, clothes being changed, bath time, or anything that makes him cold.
- He smiles after every feeding.
- Loves getting his feet rubbed.
- He's the most adorable baby ever!!
I'm super excited to get to know my baby more and more as he grows. Having a baby is seriously one of the best things about life!!

I know every person tells every new parent their new baby is cute.... but it's legit true in this case. That is one pretty baby.
